    2. Icing sugar is what you use to ice your cakes. There is 2 kinds. One comes in a pink packet and one in a blue.
The pink packet is for normal cakes which you use for this recipe.
The blue one is for wedding cakes.
They are found in the baking section in Coles and Woolies

    3. Powdered or confectioner sugar

    4. Powdered sugar or confectioners sugar is what is used in this recipe! For a flavorful treat you can also substitute pistachio or coconut pudding for the chocolate or vanilla puddings just add the same amount of milk!

  2. I think icing sugar is what you would call powdered sugar. White, soft, powdery sugar.

    2. You can use fresh whipped cream, just add some pure vanilla extract to it.

  4. Cool whip is like manufactured whipped cream in a small container found in a store. Not fresh. Usually found in frozen section. We bring it home and put it in the refrigerator until its soft and ready to use.

  5. We don't have Cool Whip in Australia.
I'm going to make this during the week using fresh cream whipped with vanilla essence.
It will be interesting to see if it lives up to its name!

  6. I have been making this dessert for over 30 years, and this is not what I would call the original recipe. I have seen multiple names over the years, though the name I have always called it is Four Layer Dessert. Technically you have five in this recipe.

From my years of experience, this recipe is going to make for very thin layers of chocolate and vanilla. You can omit nuts from the first layer. The recipe I have used all this time says to bale the first layer at 375 degrees for 15 minutes. Yes, you can use whipping cream, instead of Cool Whip. Though if you have not beaten it long enough, it will break down into soup as the top layer. Original recipe as I know it, calls for two packages of instant pudding with 3 Cups milk. The favorites in my house have been Lemon and Pistachio.

    1. That's what I have been calling it for decades too, I've heard of it being called a torte as well.and it's better using the 2 packages and 3 cups milk because you do get thicker layers so I agree with you 100%

  7. It's decadent and delicious. Although,I don't think "Sex in a Pan" is an appropriate name. I heard layered chocolate dessert. My original recipe from 40 years ago calls it "Calf Slobbers"! Lol.
